The Boer goat originated from South Africa. They were selected for meat rather than milk production; due to selective breeding and improvement, the Boer goat has a fast growth rate and excellent carcass qualities, making it one of the most popular breeds of meat goat in the world. Boer goats have a high resistance to disease and adapt well to hot, dry semi deserts.
The Boer goats are very compatible with our sheep and cattle. We raise Boer goats for their excellent meat. If you haven’t tried goat meat you are missing out on a very tasty dinner.
Goat meat is savory and less sweet than beef but slightly sweeter than lamb. It can be prepared in a variety of ways, such as being stewed, curried, baked, grilled, barbecued, minced, canned, fried, or made into sausage. Goat jerky is also another popular variety.
The meat is lower in fat than chicken but higher in protein than beef. We find it an excellent change from beef and lamb.
